Economic & Regulatory Trends

1.     The necessity for devices to aid in breathing and other ways to combat climate change
a.     Aljazeera led me to this article once I remembered another article by the BBC stating that New Delhi started selling clean air bottles so that people can breath in non-toxic air.
b.     An opportunity exists here because of the need for all humans needing to breath clean air so that we can live long lives and prosper.
c.     The customer in this sense are those living in highly polluted cities like New Delhi or Shanghai.
d.     In this scenario, I would not use the word exploit because it is a somber existing scenario for millions of people. However, to create a product or business that can help those in need should be particularly easy because of the high demand and the basic need to breath.
e.     I was able to form this belief based on the fact that everyone needs to breathe and there are existing companies and individuals who have aided in helping people in these toxic cities. Also, there is nothing in particular from my experience that helped me identify this issue.
2.     The market for auto-translation devices as the world becomes more interconnected
a.     The New York Times led me to this article that highlighted popular devices that aid in auto-translation so that people from different countries or areas can communicate.
b.     An opportunity exists since it is a new industry and many people love to travel, and it would help travelers communicate with locals to find destinations.
c.     The customers would be people travelling a country in which they are not familiar with the language.
d.     This would be difficult to develop because of language software and developing such devices because there is a need for engineers to create the technology and devices.
e.     I was able to from this belief seeing many people visiting countries that have no idea where or how to find a particular place they want to visit. Also, I believe it to be necessary for those that are not the best at learning languages but love to experience new cultures.
3.     3D printed affordable housing
a.     Popular Mechanics brought me to this opportunity that showcases the need for affordable housing in an innovative and creative way.
b.     An opportunity exists because as the human population grows there will be a need for cheap and affordable housing in countries experiencing a population boom.
c.     The customer would be lower to middle class individuals that need housing.
d.     This would be difficult to create because of the need to have a big 3D printing machine and engineers to develop this technology, however there are machines capable of it on a small scale. But there needs to be a way to make these machines more common to make these affordable houses.
e.     I was able to from this belief by seeing the need for affordable housing and how political it has become from experiences on Capitol Hill.
4.     Create more jobs from technology to ease unemployment rate
a.     Brookings Institute led me to this article talking about how technology has both led to lose of jobs yet the creation of other jobs.
b.     An opportunity exists to make new job training services  that give proper training, insurance, and wages that can replace the jobs that were lost.
c.     The customer would be one that lost a job to technology but is willing to invest in training for new task in tech.
d.     This would not be difficult to implement by creating a business that allows fast and simple education for tech positions or teaching other people how to create their own start-up companies.
e.     I was able to come to this belief by seeing a need to create jobs especially as the population rises and competition for positions increase and the need for other businesses to be created to fill the void. I suppose that I realized this because of shows showing high unemployment and population problems leading to poverty and the only way to solve the issue is new jobs and positions.

  1. Hi Austin,

I totally agree that there if entrepreneurs can find a way to produce a cost-effective breathing device that is something that is well-suited for everyone, especially in big cities that are the ones most affected by climate change. I also think that the idea of a portable translation device is a great idea, particularly for people that love to travel to foreign countries. Finally, I also agree that one of the better ways to fight leaving people behind to technological progress is to create comprehensive new job training services. Great job identifying and explaining your opportunities.

    Sincerely,

  2. Hey Austin,
I would definitely have to agree with you in that a breathing aid in certain countries with harsh climate change effects would have success and help people out. As you said yourself, it would not only serve as the center of a potential business, but it would also be helping out millions of people who are forced to inhale impure oxygen. Further, I haven't really thought about it recently but auto translation devices would literally be revolutionary and would have infinite uses in countries around the globe. I find that to be a great opportunity that you have spotted.

  3. Hey Austin,
I think you found great economic and regulatory articles first of all, and they were all interesting to read about. There is plenty of opportunity in each and every one of these topics. I personally loved the auto translation device one because that would reap so many benefits for the individual, for businesses, and society as a whole. Great post!
    All the best,
