Book Choice: Steve Jobs
What surprised me the most about this is that Steve Jobs,
through his illustrious career, did not complete college but was able to create
such a great company. With that being said, what I most admired was his perseverance
through the adversity he faced along with his passion for the subject. However,
one thing that I least admired was him being quite intense toward his workers
and those that have come into his life. It seemed like he was cutthroat at
times.
Steve Jobs faced multiple failures along the way to his
success yet despite all things that were thrown at him he learned from his
failure and got better and better.
As for the competencies that Steve Jobs showed, it ranged
from a great vision that he had to overcome and adapt no matter what, and ultimately
led to the great success of Apple and the incredible technology that he had
developed.
One part that was confusing to me why was he such a control
freak for a lack of a better term. I feel like that would drive a wedge between
him, his partners, and employees in the long terms. I would think someone with
such genius had to have so much control over every aspect of his creations.
Two questions would be:
How were you so inventive with what you came up with?
-
So that I could understand his thought processes
on how he created so much and succeeded throughout all the strife.
Did you fear losing control over your idea and feared that
someone would take it from you?
-
This question to possibly understand why he felt
the way he did about keeping almost everything under lock and key and within
his grasp.
Hands down Steve Jobs was the definition of hard work especially
with all that he faced and all that he overcame. He never gave up on his dream and
got through it all. And I do share this opinion.
Hello Austin,
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree that what helped Steve Jobs to become a worldwide icon was that he undoubtedly had an incredible passion for his craft, and that he showed an incredible perseverance whenever he had to face the many adversities he encountered during his life. Another thing about him is that he was an uncommon visionary that excelled at challenging others’ reasonable limits. He was by no means a perfect human being but he was undoubtedly a revolutionizing figure that will be idolized forever in the business world. Great job!
Sincerely,
Javier Alfredo Felis Perez
Hey Austin,
ReplyDeleteI did not choose this book for my reading reflection but I have heard great things about the piece of writing. I think it is amazing that Steve Jobs did not complete college but was able to build such a large, successful, competitive business. Do you think that this could also be the reason that he is so intense with his employees. Without learning the management skills in a college setting he may not have had the knowledge on how to manage or work with people.
